Davos to Klosters: Getting Between the Two

Davos and Klosters share one ski region but have very different characters. How to travel between them by train, car, or ski — and how to choose where to base yourself.

Davos and Klosters are often spoken of in the same breath — they share a ski region, a tourist board, and a valley — but they are two distinct places about twenty minutes apart, separated by the Wolfgang Pass. Davos is the larger resort town; Klosters is a quieter, more village-like and traditionally exclusive alternative, long favoured by those who prefer discretion to bustle. Moving between them is easy, which is what makes either a viable base.

By train

The Rhaetian Railway links Davos and Klosters directly and frequently. The journey takes roughly 20–30 minutes depending on the service, climbing over the Wolfgang Pass between the two. Trains run throughout the day and are reliable in winter when roads are slower. For most visitors without a car, this is the simplest connection. (Check current timetables before you travel — services vary by season.)

By car

By road it is around 15–20 minutes in normal conditions over the Wolfgang Pass, longer in heavy winter weather or during the Annual Meeting, when traffic and security around Davos add time. A car gives you flexibility for early starts and evening events, but parking in central Davos is limited and tightly managed during the forum.

On skis

In good conditions you can effectively travel between the two on the mountain. The Parsenn ski area connects Davos and Klosters, and the long classic descents run down toward Klosters and the valley villages — one of the genuine pleasures of the region is skiing from one town toward the other and taking the train back. It is weather- and snow-dependent, but when it works it is the most enjoyable way to cover the distance.

Which should you base in?

The connection is good enough that the choice comes down to character rather than logistics:

  • Davos puts you in the centre of the action — the Congress Centre, the promenade, the side events, the nightlife.
  • Klosters offers space, quiet, and privacy, at the cost of a short transfer to the main programme.

For the Annual Meeting specifically, many delegates who value calm evenings choose Klosters and let the iDavos team handle the transfers. We cover the trade-off in detail in Davos vs Klosters: where to stay, and our Klosters accommodation is verified for 2027. Get in touch and we'll match the base to how you want the week to feel.
