If Davos has a signature mountain, it is the Parsenn. It is the largest and best-known of the region's five ski areas, the one most visitors spend the most time on, and the mountain that links Davos to Klosters across the high ground between them.
Getting up
The Parsenn is reached from Davos Dorf by the historic Parsennbahn, a funicular railway that has carried skiers up the mountain for the best part of a century. It climbs toward the Weissfluhjoch, the hub of the area at altitude, from which lifts fan out across the upper mountain and up toward the Weissfluhgipfel, the Parsenn's high point.
The skiing
The Parsenn is, above all, a mountain for mileage. Its character is long, broad, rolling intermediate pistes — the kind of terrain where strong intermediates and confident skiers can cover enormous distances in a day without ever feeling stretched. It is less about steep technical challenge than about the pleasure of long, flowing descents with constantly changing views.
Its most celebrated feature is the set of long valley runs that drop from the high mountain all the way down toward Klosters and the village of Küblis — among the longest pisted descents in the Alps, finishing at a railway station so you can ride back up. Skiing one of these top-to-valley runs is one of the defining Davos experiences.
Who it suits
- Intermediates wanting distance and variety — this is the mountain for you.
- Beginners are better served by the gentler Madrisa or Rinerhorn.
- Experts will find the Parsenn enjoyable rather than demanding, and tend to combine it with the steeper Jakobshorn or off-piste on Pischa.
