Graubünden on the plate

Davos sits in the canton of Graubünden, which has one of Switzerland's most distinctive regional cuisines. Look out for capuns (chard-wrapped spätzli dumplings), pizzoccheri (buckwheat pasta baked with cheese and greens), Bündnerfleisch (air-dried beef), maluns, and the local cheeses and cured meats. Eaten in a traditional stube — a wood-panelled dining room — this is the food that best expresses the place.

Fine dining

Davos has a tradition of high-quality restaurants, several attached to its established hotels, that punch above what you might expect of a town this size. The standard rises further during the winter season. For a special dinner, the town can hold its own — and during the Annual Meeting, the best tables are in heavy demand.

Mountain restaurants

Some of the most memorable meals in Davos are on the mountain rather than in town. The mountain restaurants and huts across the five ski areas serve everything from a quick rösti on a sun terrace to a proper sit-down lunch with a view — a long lunch up the mountain is one of the genuine pleasures of a ski day here, and several stay open in summer for hikers.

On the promenade

At valley level, the Davos Platz promenade concentrates much of the town's casual dining — cafés, brasseries, and restaurants within walking distance of the Congress Centre and the main hotels. It's the practical heart of eating out in Davos.

Dining during the forum

In January, demand for the best restaurants vastly outstrips supply, and much of the week's dining moves into private dinners and hosted events rather than public tables.
